Posted by Mike Knight As for failing by satellite - my best recollection is that as far as it was possible to "know" at that time - we did VERY well with audience figures. However, we had taken the satellite path right at the start of the SKY era - and we were just too early for the new media - The advertising agencies in the UK had yet to be convinced that satellite worked for radio, so they held back their budgets for local UK radio, and lack of income, forced RTL to make a sad decision based on sensible business thinking. So, we closed....... I personally believe that 208 has been "mothballed"...........PERHAPS one day technology will arrive that allows RL to compete with the poor reception quality argument that has so far served the UK radio sales houses so well. When "AND IF" DRM or some other form of TX proves that a strong and clear signal can be showered over the UK - then I do hope that RTL Group will bring RL back so that we can "Kick Ass" once again. Early tests that I have heard of DRM are EXTREMELY interesting! - so keep your fingers crossed....... Mike Knight - former Station Manager of Radio Luxembourg

.....Radio Luxembourg started to explore the cable market for 208, especially in the Scandinavian area, at the very start of our Satellite transmissions. However, the fees proved WAY too high. Greedy operators (?) and prohibitive demands for royalties made it a no starter. So - we tried, but unrealistic money demands spoilt the plan......
