Here's my vent: I can no longer keep up writing 9-page IEPs for "Speech Only" students. I'm so sick of seeing "red flags" pop up every time I go into the IEP database. I currently have 60 kids on my caseload and the paperwork (typing up a draft, then creating the final draft, then distributing the copies) has become so !#$@!$ overwhelming. I'm so buried in paperwork that treatment planning is, well, non-existent. I hate sitting in one of those big IEPs where you're the case manager and after all that is said and done, you're left gathering up the paperwork for finalization and distribution - more deskjob duties. I have a SLPA Intern, but she's doing therapy and not even exercising the "office management" part of her practice - it's not even included in the internship experience! It's so backwards - having the SLPA do the therapy while SLPs are managing... paper? Ugh. Working in the schools ain't fun no more...
