I do experience this but have found that those in schools talk terribly about their kids, the parents etc. I get it. I get they have their own stress and are just blowing off steam sometimes but it wears on me. It's usually not the children's fault they are having problems. Heck, when I am working with the kids is the time when I can usually put out of my mind all of my complaints about my job. And I decidedly do complain about my job, just not the kids very often. I have one little guy who can be a turkey at times but he can also act wonderfully.
When I first started in the field, it actually shocked me how poorly teachers regularly talk about their students. Also, I have worked with two teachers now who were basically mean to kids with disabilities. I reported the incidents of name calling by the teacher (e.g. "do you know how dumb you are?) but this district does not care. Nothing was done and it just made it difficult with those teachers. But whatever, I don't want to be friends with grown up bullies myself.
I figure the only thing I can do is be a good example and not engage in that type of behavior with my colleagues.
Good luck.
