I believe you did the right thing. I recently contacted ASHA about patient abandonment and what we as SLPs should do as to not "abandon our patients". In the ASHA code of ethics it states that YOU, the SLP, will make every attempt to help your patient continue services in your absence. With that, most contracts in a private clinic state that you will not bring clients with you if you leave. In your position, you are not trying to steal a client, but provide them with continuing service that will not be available once you leave your current clinic.
