This is all great advice. I do a few things to see if I feel I am making an impact...
1. I like to spend time in classrooms to remind myself that not every classroom period engages each student nor does every class engage students in the high number of responses and feedback that we provide
2. Going into a classroom and talking to teachers also lets me see (and reinforce for myself) that the skills I am targeting are essential for this students survival/success in the classroom setting (that's what we are all about!)...conversely, it may set me on a new path of thinking!
3. As someone else said, give yourself permission to have fun with your students (I remember our first goal in undergrad had to be "establish rapport" or we would FAIL the lesson plan!) in a less structured way, also to look at carryover. Use an activity/game for all groups and give yourself a week's break from intensive planning!
