I have a student who was diagnosed with mild autism/aspergers. Her language was WNL and verbal comprehension was 95 on the WISC. Throughout the evaluation, social language kept coming up. Teacher and parent were concerned that she doesn't initiate conversations, doesn't maintain eye contact, likes to work by herself. She does fine in the therapy room though. I realize this is not a typical environment. Could someone recommend goals that can be worked on in the therapy room and would transition to the classroom? I was thinking about the student listing 4 out of 5 conversation starters she could use with peers, "how are you", "how was your weekend?", etc. Also working on maintaining eye contact for 10 seconds with the therapist/therapy peers 5 times during therapy session, and student providing an appropriate response to a given situation. I'm still having trouble thinking of ways to carryover and measure the goals. Please help!
