Are any other SLPs out there being told that they need to report progress every 4 1/2 weeks? I am being told that since my district sends out interims in addition to 9 week report cards that I need to send out interims and 9 week progress reports too. I believe that it is coming from the state since it states this directly on the new state IEP forms. The new forms say that progress must be reported as often as it is reported for reg. ed. students.
I just can't imagine how in the world I can report progress every 4 1/2 weeks on 60 or more students with at leat 3 or more goals each (mind you I could have up to 80 students according to my state caseload limits). Also, when many of my students only come once per week and I'm lucky if I see them 3 out of the 4 weeks due to absences, teacher requests to let them stay in the classroom just for one day due to a special project, assemblies, etc., what would I even report? One of the special ed. teachers in my building who sees her students everyday told me she was having difficulty figuring out what to write on her progress reports. Did anyone every think of SLPS, OTs, and PTs when they made this dumb decision that progress needs to be reported at interims too? This doesn't make sense.
Also, our new progress report form says that progress should be reported in measureable terms. So not only am I supposed to be reporting whether or not progress is made but how much (in a measurable way). I think that I should just stop seeing students and just fill out progress reports (note my sarcasm). Apparently that is what the state wants (I am assuming that this idea came from the state.). The paperwork was out of control before but this is just absurd. Is anyone else being told to do this? This is going to make a difficult job impossible.
