Consult with your ot about sensorimotor activities and view oral -motor excercises as necessary only for feeding or drooling issues. Current research indicates you teach speech sound movments as the strength it takes to make speech sounds is minimal-they need to learn the movements. Also, if there is no communication system think about what you can develop as you teach/ work on articulation. Is the child a candidate for sign language, picture exchange, or an augmentative device?
