Has anyone ever worked with an 18q- syndrome child before? I'm finishing up the 3 yr reeval for one of my students, age 9 and 1/2(she wasn't on my caseload until 2 years ago). She looks like a much younger student. She has a low, husky voice, a slightly flattened nose and nasality associated with this syndrome. Her medical report states that she has a high arched palate. Her language scores, which I won't report here, show average to low abilities. She is a very talkative child. Her lowest scores were receptive language and expressive language subtests that do not have picture cues. Her last IQ was 70. We work on various language units: opposites, homonyms, synonyms, compare/contrast, categories. I guess what I'm wondering is if there's something else with 18q- syndrome children that I should be working on or if anyone has any special areas that they've emphasized with students who have this syndrome?
Thank you!
