Hi--I work in both settings. I am full time in schools (29 years) and I work a couple of hours per week in the hospital clinic (pediatrics only). I do have to tell you I like schools better. After all these years, I finally make a decent salary :). I get much better vacations than at the hospital, too. I also have paid health insurance at school. I'm not sure about most clinics/hospitals, but most are probably hourly, so if you don't work, you don't get paid!! The clinic work has been a great supplement to my income, I work with preschool kids (that's fun), but there are some cases I have to refer on to someone else. As far as materials--our hospital has very little, and I have ended up bringing my own. I have many more resources at school provided by the school (actually, a computer and the internet have been a blessing over the last few years of budget cuts).
So...I guess that doesn't answer your question very well. I guess there are good and bad points about every job setting!
