In the past, I have done art or cooking activities with the kids. I would take pictures throughout the process. During the next session, we would put the pictures in order and retell what we did, using words such as first, next, then, and last or finally. I have always used pictures when working on sequencing with kids. However, with the child you are working with now, you could fade the pictures.
I like the book Blooming Speech and Language. I can't remember where I got it. I think Linguisystems. Anyway, there are several good activities in that book. I just finished a unit on making fruit salad. We worked on vocabulary, colors, numbers, sequencing, measurements. It was one of my best lessons.
