I, too, have a "broken heart" game like yours, but I just made it out of paper hearts from the die cut machine (& laminated), so cheap. We roll a dice cube and that's how many hearts the student gets, and my rule is they can only lose hearts they got on that roll from the broken heart (if they got one). I had some students get very upset if they lost a lot of hearts.
I have a version for each holiday, in March it's "foolish leprechaun" with shamrock shapes, April it's "rotten eggs", Halloween it's "Great Pumpkin", November it's "Hidden turkey", and December its "the Grinch". It's also fun to put in a few "free turn" or something to "cancel out" the bad one, we do "cupid" for Valentine's. Pat is right, they love this game, and it's fun all year!
