Sorry I did not note that this child was your own. The benefits of being in a small language/speech group are for his pragmatic/conversational/social speech skills. As he ages he will need to work on moe involved social speeechso he can participate in class. There afre many many things that can be done to make him more aware of how his participation as a speaker can be a safe and rewarding place. In our district he would be in tx 3-4 times a week. Even our children that have good scores, but aren't using speech in the classroom will benefit from support.
