Do you know any visual phonics or other hand signs? My students do well with this type of cueing and usually start to self-cue as well. For example, with final /p/, make an O shape with your hand facing outward, and when you get to the /p/ part of the word, release all of the fingers.
Have you tried minimal pairs such as sew vs. soap? With pictures, you can point to sew and NOT have your hand pop out for the sound but then pop out (hand cue) for the /p/. YOu can then do a discrim. task and have the child point to which one s/he hears.
Another idea is to cut some pictures in half...if s/he says SO instead of SOAP, you can visually show him/her that part of the word is gone.
