I work in a grades 3-5 public school. I have several students on my caseload with lateral & frontal lisp and vocalic r errors who fit this description: They use spontaneous speech with 100% accuracy while self-monitoring with me in the speech room and the classroom, and they slip to 50% or less in the classroom if they think I am not listening (or sometimes even when I am!). Teachers will report overall poor speech skills in the classroom when I am not present. I give weekly homework that involves the parents monitoring, assessing, and signing off (I use "Easy Does it for Aritc: A Langauge Approach" , and a parental rating form for reading at home, which they seem to enjoy).
My question is: What else can I do with these students to help their independent self-monitoring in the classroom?
What do you do in this situation?
