I have found the following technique very helpful to correct lateral air emission in production of ch and j. Have the student say "t". Do this several times and have them pay attention to lateral tongue placement. You may want to provide tactile input to call attention to sides of the tongue prior to production. Then have student say "teeyu". There should not be lateral air emission. You can shape production into "ch" by increasing the force of airflow in produciton of "teeyu". (yu is short u as in up). I have had great success using this technique with lateral air emission on these sounds. Do the same for "j".
