I work in PA and just recently (2004?) the state has mandated that all SLP's need Master's and CCC's to work anywhere. However, those who have a Bachelor's and teaching certificate issued prior to 2004 are so-called "grandfathered in" in PA, which allows them to still work in any educational setting with only a Bachelor's degree (and a teaching certificate). Due to the continuing shortage of SLP's, PA also allows for Bachelor level therapists (who graduated since 2004) to work in educational settings under an emergency certification as long they plan to enroll in grad school during the emergency certification period. I know most states require the Master's and CCC's right away, but it seems to be helping somewhat in PA with allowing bachelor's level therapists and/or emergency certificated therapists to practice in education. We have also found that many of our strongest therapists are the those that only have a Bachelor's level degree-- believe it or not.
