In Michigan, we have not had a state licensure law go into effect as of yet. So the schools districts now can hire speech path's with their clinical C's or masters in speech with a teaching cert. Now we have a very interesting thing going on. As of July 1st. Our medicaid laws have changed. Two new concerns are: 1) Thos speech path's without C's now must be supervised and have their supervisor sign medicaid tickets. And, 2) for billing of medicaid, a doctor must perscribe and sign for speech therapy and the disorder must relate to a medical problem. The rub is this: Our IEPT/MET to certify a child the speech disorder must effect academic performance, and most of these kids have developmental and or cognitive issues that gives them speech service.
Has anyone heard of this? What do you do?
