I'm 54 I got my BS in 1976 and my MA in 1986, my Cs 1988 Any one could see an MA was going to be necessary and I needed job security because I wasn't married. I went to an accredited college that followed the Cs requirements. BUT I also passed a national exam, and did a CFY. I've saved all my clinical transcripts, etc because I also have lived in several states and have had licensure and Dept of Ed certification in all. Are you saying you've been grandfathered in with a BS degree? NO ONE WILL MISS YOU, You pull a salary, don't have to do the medicaid paperwork, don't have to pay ASHA dues, and continue the delusion in the public schools that it's not important to support the hiring of CCC level SLPs *PLUS* pay us more than a teachers salary based on our meeting Master Teacher Competency
or....you have an MA and no C's because you made your choice( husband, children..) Your luck, you're probably in a state with a 55 max caseload size. If all you're suffering is people looking down their noses at you...live with it OR get politically active and support the MA,CCC SLPs who are working their butts off with Huge caseloads, demanding paperwork, esp Medicaid, and lousy pay. It's not to late...DO SOMETHING Are you a member of your teachers' assoc? Join CEC it seems to get more done legislatively for ESE staff than ASHA, or send $ to the ASHA PAC(Political Action Committee)
