Hi - Marie is absolutely correct. A Dr. anything (recommendation of therapy, signature with the 60 day limit, etc.) is not legally bounding to a school. You can do what the team feels is more appropriate for the student. The only way I can see a Dr. recommendation coming back on you is if you go against what the 'ole Dr. said, you don't have enough evidence that what you did was more academically relevant, and you get sued :)
