Sorry you are having to wait for testing in the schools. Our district schedules testing pretty much all year long. You could check with your insurance to see if they would cover testing and therapy through a clinic and then still check it out in the fall with the schools.
How old is your toddler?
I would use songs, books and play as way to work on joint attention, words etc. Use her toys but maybe put some away and bring out one or two for more novelity. You could use picture/word cards in your home by placing them on the items- stove, bed, frig, and other items she likes toys, food, mom, dad etc. Then have a tag board with these same pictures/words that she can choose and match either match to the real item or bring to you.
You could have another board for emotions - keep it simple- happy sad owie/hurt maybe to start.
If she need routines then use a visual schedule for snack time, bed time etc.
