Posted by Snakey on 2/7/2007, 9:53 pm I agree that there are some serious issues at the club and it is sad to see. Like Chappy I'm not afraid to give an opinion and prefer to do it face to face so if you want to talk about it feel free. Problems I see are as follows; 1. Player recruitment - Bugbrooke is a small village to run 4 Saturday teams. We have the Sidebottoms, Whitey and the Bird who play for the senior teams. To my knowledge all the rest come from outside the village. The recruitment has been poor since I have been there and instead of finding new 1st team players, it seems that we are quite happy to take from the 2nds which has left the 2nds struggling. I was told at the last comm meeting that the captain wouldn't be playing for the 1s anymore but it has proved to be untrue. It's a sad state to be in and does nothing for the 2nd team players morale. I believe Rob is the right man for the job but he is having exactly the same problems as I did for 2 years. Not enough depth for 2 competitive sides. 2. In order to attract players we need better facilities. We need to be honest and admit that the pavilion is in a sh*t state. The toilets stink, the floor is falling through and the place is falling to bits. Nobody can complain about the field cos it is in tip top condition. We have a superb commodity which with some serious improvement and TLC would attract players more. There is no end of grants and funding available out there. What we need is some proper leadership from the committee to implement it and sort the place out. Better preparation and we could have 3 or 4 social events that would boost the coffers no end rather than a last minute rush for barn dances etc 3. Chappy said about Rob doing a lot of work. We as a club seem happy to let ppl get on with too much. Examples - a 16 year old spending half his time finding teams for Thursday and Sunday teams. Why is this? Do we not have an adult prepared to make the 30 phone calls to get 11 out on a sunday? Poor Tony Bird must spend half his life doin the Bugbrooke bar and not to mention all the odds and sods Whitey does. I spent 3 years running sides for this club and never receievd a word of thanks and we all know what happened at the end of my reign! We need to sort it out and sort out who is captain of what team! This club is very frustrating. I love the club but the way it is run frustrates me as it could be so much better with better organisation, commuinication and structure. How many of the many youth teams we have ran since the days of DFN and Big G still play at the club? Very few. There must be a reason for this. If you don't agree with anything I have wrote feel free to bite back either on here or in person. Like I say I want to see the club thrive as much as the next one but as it stands, no amount of success for the first team will mask the divideness that exists below the surface.
Have watched from a distance the thoughts of the few that have posted on the message board about the perceived problems at the club.
