The Over 30's overcame the Under 30's by 30 runs today. With a dubious looking pitch Under 30's captain Sam Bird elected to bowl. Good choice. The Over 30's were blown away by tight bowling and shocking bounce and were at one stage 64-7 with only Robin Harding putting up any resistance falling for a breezy 41 which proved to be the highest score of the day. However, Scutt shepherded Lamb well and made 40 with Lamb making 13 in a partenership taking the score to 130 all out. An excellent Lunch was then had before the Under 30's innings began. The Over 30's opening bowlers with wine in their bellies restricted the Undies to 10-2 after 7 overs. Victory seemed likely with Silver and Browne batting steadily however Silver went for 24 and with the score now 52-3 Andy Brazier needed to bat well. Browne left him with the score on 60-4 having spent several overs grinding out 14. The Brazier brothers then settled in before Matt was snaffled LBW by Ivins. Soon after Andy was bowled around his legs for 18 and the over 30's were confident. A shock seemed on the cards for a short while before Loake fell (92-7). Marshall fell soon after bringing in last man Luke Preston. He left his first ball but offered some catching practice next ball for Chapman getting out to his own dad to end an enjoyable day of cricket on a bowler friendly wicket.
So, the over 30's win the Jack Dawson Shield but they will face stiffer opposition next year!
