Posted by Snakey on 7/7/2006, 11:00 pm Disappointingly we lost several players over the winter and at the start of the season. Vaughany, Goodsons and the vast majority of the under 15s squad went whilst losing Robbo, Jack and Colesy later on have also been a big blow to the seconds. That said the role of the Seconds is to prepare players for the first team. The disappointment has been that these players have gone over to replace players who have left rather than in return for players out of form etc. Our retention and recruitment of players has been poor, there's no hiding the facts. As a club we need to improve our practice facilities. something we hope to have some news on in the coming weeks. Although we are yet to taste success on the field, we can report many positives. The main one being the play of 13 year old Sam Heath who has come over with Dad Nigel. Andy Watson has scored a few as did Russ before moving up. We have blooded the kids well which has been the main aim of the 2nds over the years. Unfortunately these kids seem to leave before they bear fruition. The lads we had last year like Goodson, Mowbray, Vaughan, Darren Smith etc have seen only Birdy retained. I think he is the best of the bunch but its such a shame these other lads havent been seen at the club. Birdy and Vernon Young have been the pick of the bowlers this season so far with not a lot to choose from in the batting department as we havent batted well all year (apart from hitting 220+ against Spencer) I think we need to be recruiting more players but in order to attract the players we need better facilities in order to do this. Our net is a joke if we're honest, we spend more time looking for balls than anything else. Anyway I hope that the 2nd half of the season sees the youth teamers continue to improve. I've been pleased with the form of Ciaran, Hooky and Calum Mead when they have played and playing senior cricket can only improve them as players. Any points of view gratefully received Snakey
Just thought I'd share the Skippers half season report with the thronged masses of the Bugbrooke website.
