Posted by Coach Snakey on 5/7/2006, 10:49 pm The Trumpets invited the hosts to bat in what eventually proved an unwise decision on a murky night with rain in the air. Houghton got off to a flyer before Captain Hook dropped 2 dollies off the bowling of Marsh in quick succession. Some indifferent fielding and bowling didnt help the Trumpets cause but after fine spells of bowling from Thomas, Browne and new boy Steven Williams (?), they managed to restrict (!) the hosts to 140-9 from 20 overs. The reply was far more pleasing. After a scratchy innings from Marsh, the Captain went on to make up for his earlier misdemeanours by hitting a superb 67. He was accompanied by an excellent supporting innings from Craig Browne. Hook eventually went chasing the win after Great Houghton unsportingly brought on their quickest bowler when it was practically dark. Then ironically after they realised they had the game won with one over to go, they decided not to bring back their opening bowler cos it was 'too dangerous' Positives - The batting display, Thomas, Browne and Steven's bowling. Negatives - Lack of basics in the field. Something to work on though! Well played Hooky with the bat but work on your fielding!
The Trumpets U15s took on their Gt Houghton counterparts away from home tonight in their latest league match.
