Posted by meloant I know the VS-2480 is the 1st in the Roland series that combines computer use for purposes of editing (you can connect a mouse and keyboard to it from what i gather). It sounds compelling, and i imagine the quality to be no worse if not better than the 1680. You might also want to consider, if you have not already dropped the cash, a G4/Digi 001 w/plug ins, or Motu firewire combo. I just imagine in terms of editing and post pro, this type of thing to be more versatile. But i could just be imagining things.

Yes, yes. i don't have personal experience on that specific piece of gear. But I do have some with the VS 1680. And while I have not used the VS 1680 for editing or for adding effects to tracks or the entire mix, I can confidently say that the depth and the amount of headroom that the machine offers for recordings makes it well worth the investmant. Yes, the quality of recordings on that machine is excellent, and obviously there is something amazing to be said of being able to take this recording quality with you wherever you go. Portability is a key feature of these Roland workstations.
