James Madison McKee was my great grandfather and we are in Texas. My grandfather, Hershall E. McKee, who was James' third son, was born Sep 19, 1888 in Batesville, MS. They came to Texas around the turn of the century and settled in East Texas.
My father, Lloyd Fields McKee, was born in Scurry, TX as were his two brothers.
James Madison McKee, his wife Callie, my grandfather Hershall and several other McKee's are buried in Scurry.
Our great great grandmother Cynthia Hale McKee came with the family to Texas and died 22 April 1918 and is buried in the Cemetery in Prairieville, Kaufman County, Texas.
Cynthia's husband, Harvey E. McKee was born in South Carolina. He had five brothers and sisters. His father was Isaac McKee who married Pricilla Ann Newton in South Carolina. They moved to Georgia about 1840 to Hall County and later to Cobb County. Harvey and Cynthia were married in Hall County in the 1850's. The 1860 US Census show them living with his parents. He and his brother John joined the CSA. John joined in late 1861 or early 1862. John died on June 6, 1862 in Richmond, VA and is buried at Hollywood Cemetery.
Harvey was a member of Company M, Phillips Legion.
He fought at Gettysburg and was wounded in the Battle of Foxes Run, MD the day before the Battle of Antietam. Harvey died June 6, 1864 at a CSA hospital in Liberty, VA. This town is now called Bradford, VA.
After the war, James Madison and Callie with their family along with William Paul McKee and his wife and family moved to MS, where Hershall was born, then on to Texas. Hershall's sister married and stayed in MS - that's the McKee's we were looking for in MS.
Which one of James' children is your wife descended from?
I think that makes us second or third cousins.
I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area as do my 3 brothers and one sister. My mother lives in Grand Prairie.
I would be interested to hear if any of this info I have jives with what you all have.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Dan
