Posted by Paula Ross Reynolds on 1/12/2005, 10:48 am Malcolm/Catherine's sons emigrated to Cape Breton in 1828 and 1829. Murdo had married Isabella MacDonald about 1810 on Skye. Murdo and Isabella were Baptists, converted by Haldane. Other MacDonalds (also Baptists -- unusual -- ) emigrated at about the same time. I'm trying to find links between "my" Skye MacDonalds and those who went to Cape Breton and whose progeny are still there. Even the best-informed MacDonalds on Cape Breton have not gone far enough back in time and far enough away (Scotland) to make the connection. Murdo's croft at 1 Kilvaxter is a short distance from the cemetery in which Flora MacDonald is buried. I believe that the MacDonalds were the lairds of this area in Kilvaxter, and probably much more. Any ideas?
In Kilmuir, Malcolm Ross and Catherine MacDonald had at least two children, though I'll bet there were more. These two were: Murdo (b 1786) and Angus (b soon thereafter). Catherine's father was Alexander MacDonald (b. about 1735, served in 42nd Black Watch)
Aye,
Paula
