Re the name Stanwyx, a new one on me Robert, there is a place named Stanwix in Cumberland UK that you could look at. The i instead of a y shouldn't be a problem as the MacCrimmon name has changed over the years as with many other Surnames.
Yes the true MacCrimmon tartan is a you stated and is the Hunting Tartan, the yellow tartan your family refer to is the Dress Tartan and is the MacLeod tartan to whom are were the famous Bagpipers for, hence over the years we have used their Hunting and Dress Tartan though a few years ago we reverted to the true MacCrimmon Hunting Tartan, or as near as we could get it based on old records.
Re whether the McCrimmons are a Clan or not, a strange claim!, I suggest you look at our "Clan" MacCrimmon Family Register and make your own mind up.
I notice with a btinternet Email you must be somewhere in the UK, I am in St Albans, HERTS.
