My surname

Hello. I have been told since I was a child that my family name was changed, or mis-spelt by someone in authority when we arrived in London. It was originally McCrimmon, and that we come from a family of famous pipers. I now know quite a bit of the history of that family, and was woundering if anyone can confirm or deny the relationship between between the name McCrimmon and Crimin. Thanks in advance for your help.
