OK, more diagnostic info here.
I deleted the rogue WS101 folder from the Remote earlier today. After Quickpoll failed and I made my last entry, I checked the Retail8/RPRO directory again and WS101 was back again. It was timestamped right when they must have been processing out at the remote and quick-polling.
so it seems like that process is re-creating this extra, empty WS101 folder each time.
