TrendMicro v. AVG

Hello,
My Trend Micro annual renewal is due soon, and I'm wondering if using the latest free AVG program will serve the same purpose. Why pay for software when you can get the same service for free? AVG works fine on my laptop, how does it work with the system at my store?
