You cannot EDIT a nickname. You'll have to create a new user, and then delete the existing one.
History will not be changed automatically. The DVS tool can be used to FIND & REPLACE the old nickname so that it reflects the new nickname. This is a rather advanced tool to be using though, so I'll have our service group contact you to schedule a time for this.
