Hey Jason,
To my knowledge there isn't a document that outlines any possible error messages you may encounter with Shift4. I just emailed you what Shift4 documentation is provided from the developer, but it's more from the perspective of installing than it is troubleshooting.
Force Authorize is simply the option to post a credit card # and amount to the batch without actually authorizing that the funds are available. It should not be used often, as processors might impose restrictions or point penalties on its use.
