may day promotes the workers struggle for a more human working conditions. It began with the struggle for a 8 hours work day. The fact that vile cruel centeralized capitalists used marxist slogans and workers' symbols to promote their sins does not mean these things promote those people and those regimes. It's kind of like saying that because of the crusades, the inquisition and colonialism, all that christianity promotes is murder, occupation and oppression, and sorry to rain on the faith and spoil the party of the nice church going christians, but I cannot ignore the evil this religion promotes.
