Good evening Hulkaholics
HULKAHOLICS ANONYMOUS #120 IS NOW IN SESSION!!!!
This just isn't my weekend for trying to post this meeting. I got home real late last night to try to post, but I was about to fall asleep and then my WebTV messed up on me and I lost my post. Tonight, I am at work and I pushed a wrong button and again, it caused me to lose my post!! Has this ever happened to any of you?
Anyway, I feel like playing some basketball. Either one on one or some 21. And then I'll quench my thirst with a Flagler Beer. The episode on my Hulking mind is one of the all time greatest episodes of the second season:
A Child in Need:
This episode is very high on my recommendation list. This episode was so well written and the cast of this episode gave an excellent performance. Bill Bixby's charm really makes this episode a real gem, which explains why I liked his friendship with Mark Hollinger. Dennis Dimster did a great job as the withdrawn Mark, who tells everybody that he falls down a lot to explain his wounds. Sandy McPeak gave a great performance as Jack Hollinger, who is obviously a very distrubed man. Sally Kirkland was very good as Margaret, who loves her husband so much, she's in denial over his violent behavior and doesn't know what to do about it. Rebecca York was a very beautiful woman and she was good as Miss Walker, the school nurse, who was reluctant to get involved in Mark's case for fear of losing her job. An overall great show.
I remember seeing this episode on its original airdate back in 1978. Jack Hollinger was scary to me when I was a kid. As for the Hulkouts, they were both very outstanding. The first one was pretty scary to me when I was a kid. I remember my heart racing when Mark was slowly approaching Jack with his beer and spilling it. The scariest line to me back then was Jack shouting, "Now look what you've done!! NOW CLEAN IT UP!! COME HERE AND CLEAN IT UP!!" David's first Hulkout is triggered by anger over the neighbors all turning their backs. I am convinced that one neighbor was uncredited, Bob Hastings. He was in My Favorite Magician as the jerk who owned the diner. He looked and sounded like Bob Hastings. I loved how the Hulk tore through the wall, lifted Jack, and pushed him through the kitchen window.
The second Hulkout was also well done. David and Mark are waiting in the gymn for Margaret, but Jack shows up instead, which indicates to me that when Jack got home, he roughed up Margaret to find out where Mark was and what David was planning. Jack himself triggered the second Hulkout and as Mark Rathwell says in his episode guide, one of the highlights is seeing the Hulk give Hollinger a dose of his own medicine. Jack was trying to hit the Hulk and the Hulk merely pushed him back against the wall, which triggered his subconscious memories of being beaten in childhood by his own father. Seeing Jack Hollinger crying and begging the Hulk (or his father psychologically) not to hit him anymore is a real potential tearjerker.
Other great scenes include David's lengthy talk with Margaret, Jack McGee's brief appearance, and the scene with the Hulk and Mark eluding the police. A scene that SciFi id show when the other channels did not during the 80's.
DELETED SCENE COMMENT:
One brief scene is when David leaves school for the day and sees a father and son throwing a baseball back and forth and in the Hollinger household, Jack Hollinger is watching the news and hears a news story about how a 12 year old boy saved his father's life, which Jack tells Mark to bring him another beer.
Okay Erik, here are my quotes of the week:
MISS WALKER: Are you a nurse Mr. Baxter or a doctor?
DAVID: I'm a human being and I've fallen down.
Mrs. Hollinger. That creature's already killed two people.
DAVID: Only if the creature was his father.
DAVID: He'll go to a doctor.
DAVID: Yes.
MARK: I wish I could. Sometimes it would come in real handy.
Well, this does it for me fellow Hulkaholics. I guess third time's the charm since I didn't hit a wrong button that erased this post. On that note, I'm now going to turn the meeting over to all of you so you can discuss what's on your Hulking minds. Okay fellow Hulkaholics, the green floor is all yours.
Cheers.
