Within the image is executed as well as dried for an estimated a year,an artist often seals art with an important layer of varnish which happens to be typically made of damar gum crystals dissolved in turpentine. Such varnishes can be taken off without disturbing the oil painting itself, to enable cleaning and conservation. Some contemporary artists decide will not varnish their work, preferring that the surfaces remain varnish-free.
