The only thing you have to worry about in a shallow, sandy river with a jet is the cooling system. If you are idling in sandy water the cooling system gets clogged with silt and overheats. This can be avoided by cutting the motor and flushing the cooling system with a hose after each use so that there is little to no buildup after each use. Depending on the motor, you can buy an attachment to run the motor on a trailer with a garden hose.
