Posted by minime on 2/8/2002, 5:18 pm P.S. There is also a Hearts Match game on the Materials Exchange page that you can use for reinforcement in small groups.
Here's an easy one! I call this "Have a Heart." Cut out red, pink, white construction paper hearts, approx 4" (check to see if your school has a die-cut for this...much easier!). On side of each heart put a number from 1 to 6. On the other side write 2-3 step directions. Put the hearts in piles according to #, with the # side up. Student roll a die, count the dots, and select a heart with that number on it. You read the directions, they do it. Alternatives to directions: write vocab words for them to define or use in a sentence, word pairs to determine same/different, list of 3-4 words to recall in sequence or determine which one doesn't go, correct the grammar tasks, fill in the blank, or words that students have to give the opposite, synonym, or rhyming word. Basically, you can put anything you want on the hearts (books like HELP, BESST, and other drill/practice books are good sources of material). I use this game as a time to take data on IEP goals in the classroom. It's easy and the kids love it!
