After reading Pat's newsletter I came up with a couple more books that could be used to promote tolerance in the primary grades toward those with S/L issues.
The Cow who went OINK by Bernard Most. This is about a cow who can only oink and a pig who can moo. They were both made fun of by other animals and decided to teach each other their sound. I've used this with a kindergarten class to promote tolerance of articulation differences.
Bernard Most also has another book called Cock-A-Doodle-Moo featuring a rooster with laryngitis.
