You could do matching by playing a rhyming memory game...so the student turns over two cards, if they rhyme then he gets to keep them. If they don't then he has to turn them back over and try again. You could do sorting by using word families...for example words that end in ay (hay, ray, say) and ee (bee, free, me) and the student has to sort the cards by the family group that they belong in.
