I use books for story retelling and articulation carry over skills. A class I took in graduate school taught us how to use episodic books to teach narrative language skills. Meaning there was an initiating event, action, consequence. Robert Munsch books are great for this: Mud Puddle, Andrew's Loose Tooth, Mortimer. Narrative language skills tie in with most stand standards for curriculum.
