I use a program called "Early Sounds and Symbols Reading Program". It is based on a character "High Hat" who helps many different friends. For example, his first friend is Marti Mouse and her sound is "mmmmm". It is sound based, not based on the name of the letter. I'm amazed at how much the kids learn with it and they are very motivated with the characters. Here is the website:
