I am running a rather extensive phonemic awareness program for kindergarten students in my district.
Identified students receive small group pull out services twice each week. I divide the program into four six
week phases. The first phase is just building literacy awareness skills with a smattering of what's to come
built in. The second phase is rhyming, the third is sementing, and the last is blending, deleting and
manipulating. The last phase will actually last about 7-8 weeks. Assessment is conducted after each phase.
We have seen WONDERFUL results with this program. I don't have all the facts and figures in front of me as
I type this, but I believe we saw at least 50-60% growth in each area, with some students being much more.
This is the fourth year I have been doing this and I have no intention of discontinuing it.....only improving it!
