I have a 5 year old nonverbal autistic boy. For two years prior to me the goal was to try to teach sign language however he did not respond to this so I started PECS which has been successful. I have tried to incorporate into snack mostly but have a play choice board and have started picture for bathroom to tell us he doesn't have to go. I have tried YOUR TURN, MY TURN but he doesn't get it. I am stumped in where to go. It has been a battle to get the classroom to use schedules but is now working better but not completely. He has said a word from time to time, but never to hear again. He babbles frequently. He is now signing PLEASE for everything he wants appropriately and has slid a bit using PECS sentences of I WANT and have had to back up. I would appreciate suggestions in where to go with him. he will remain in the EC room another year and we are hoping on the home intervention program to begin late fall.
