Posted by tigerslp Did anybody read the recent ASHA leader article about RtI and the SLP? In that article, it sounded like our role was a coach and not as much therapy time (maybe I'm exaggerating). I just graduated from college 4 years ago and I didn't have a single class on literacy or incorporating reading into speech. I feel very frustrated about that because I don't feel I have the expertise to be telling the teachers how to teach. Maybe I have this all wrong. Would somebody give me some guidance as to exactly what my role is in literacy and where do I start as to developing some knowldege in this area?

I know that as SLPs literacy is in our "scope of practice", but I really don't see where I fit in in my school. We have Title I reading, a literacy coach, and an instructional coach. They all either do lessons in class or model lessons for the teacher. What am I supposed to do?
