I completly agree! I did present at my daughter's school and I taught some signs, had them cover their ears to simulate hearing loss, explained language and pragmatics on an elementary level, and also read the Wodney Wat book. The main focus of my presentation was to not only explain what I do for a living, but to impress upon the kids that oftentimes when people can not communicate well it's not their fault, and that they are probably working on improving their skills. I stressed to them that they must be PATIENT and KIND to be a good communicator, especially to those who have a disorder. Thanks for your comment. I, too, consider myself "communication specialist".
