
Posted by cheryll If you are looking at a child who is poor in expressive vocabulary or word retrieval there are better ways to go. As a matter of fact, I believe rapid naming in therapy could suppress progress by creating anxiety, which never helps memory. Caroline Bowen's website has some excellent ideas for word retrieval activities. It is www.slpsite.com. It's well worth visiting anyway because there is a wealth of information for phonological problems and other disorders.

The literature I have read indicates that rapid naming is not an appropriate goal and does not serve the child in any way. As a diagnostic tool, I know it is used on some test or other, but I think it is used as a goal on an iep when writing goals from testing, which isn't necessarily the best way to go.
