Posted by Kip Hering I talked it over with the Gopher Man and then looked at the field. He told me he was only going to do the field, but then he agreed to do 3' or 4' around the outside of the field. He was going to use grain like we are using now; not gas. He says that the gas doesn't work too well in sandy soil. In fact he didn't have too much hope for the outside of the field because it's so dry that it would be hard to keep the tunnels open and place the grain in there. I dragged the outside of the field on Monday to see how many new mounds we were talking about. I counted 5 or maybe 6 on the river side of the field. I figured that's not very many gophers for $250, so I called him back and asked them to hold off for a while. Christina and I will try a little harder to get the gophers under control. The problem we are having now is the collapse of existing tunnels and it happens each year at this time of year until the rains start. In other words they are already there and even if we kill more gophers the existing tunnels will still collapse. We'll try to keep them filled. Thanks for your interest in this problem and your offers to help. We'll still take you up on your offer to help, but will hold off on the contract service for the time being. See you Saturday. Kip
