Hi Polo Fans,
I forgot in my recent weekly letter to include a mention about our upcoming Costume Polo Match for Saturday, October 30th. I've invited some friends (about 20) to come watch polo...and it just happened to coincide with Halloween. Steve Coblentz has also arranged for Charlie and Madelyn Mosse, and possibly some others, to come out that morning and join the fun. Charlie taught a lot of us how to play the game.
The day's events will be more or less as follows:
10 Am: First 2 or 3 chukkers in costume. The spectators with the help of the announcer (Steve) will select winners for best costume, best costumed horse (if there are any) and rider, best costumed pair, etc.
11 AM (or when ever we feel like it) take off the costumes( or keep thme on) and play polo as teams. Score will be kept, as the losers will cook the hamburgers.
Noon, more or less: Awards ceremony. Trick or Treat Bags for the horses, BBQ Hamburgers, cold drinks, etc..
Children are welcome. I'm sure that they'll have a ball. Just be sure to bring something that they'd like to eat if they don't like hamburgers. My invited guests will probably bring their own picnic lunch ( or I may include them in the hamburger drill) and chairs like in past years.
Let me know how many horses you'll be bringing so we have enough T or T bags. We don't want any disappointed horses!
Anybody have any suggestions? This event will be in the planning stage up until about 9:30 the day of the party. please pass the word, especially to any players who may have played with Charlie Mosse.
Best regards,
Kip
